Tim Lutz

Tim Lutz is an accomplished engineering professional with extensive experience in performance development and project management within the automotive and engineering sectors. Currently serving as the Director of Performance & Special Projects at LiquidPiston since April 2025, Lutz leads analysis and testing groups to meet engine performance targets while supporting business development initiatives. Prior to this role, Lutz worked at Cummins Inc. for over two decades, where responsibilities included leading a Department of Energy-funded natural gas engine development program and managing various engineering teams focused on advanced systems and technical improvements. Lutz's early career included roles in business development and manufacturing engineering at Wellan Thermal Systems. Lutz holds multiple degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and the University of Michigan.
