Thom Shutt

Thom Shutt has a diverse work history spanning multiple companies and roles in the technology industry. Thom currently holds the position of Director of Engineering at Livepeer, a role they began in April 2023. Prior to this, Thom served as an Engineering Lead at Livepeer from March 2022 until their promotion.

Before joining Livepeer, Thom worked at Brightcove starting in 2015. During their time there, they held various positions, including Senior Engineering Manager and Engineering Manager, leading teams in the development of Golang microservices running on AWS technologies. Thom also handled relationships with cloud, CDN, monitoring, and DRM vendors. Thom played a significant role in the design and implementation of various enhancements to Brightcove's video-on-demand (VOD) platforms, such as "Delivery Rules," Thumbnail Scrubbing, Static URLs, Geo-Restriction, and Authentication at the edge. Thom also contributed to Brightcove's strategy for delivering content into China.

Prior to Brightcove, Thom worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Algomi in 2014, focusing on software development. Thom then transitioned to the BBC in 2012, where they held roles as a Senior Software Engineer for the iPlayer and as a Software Engineer for the Media Publishing System.

Thom's career began in 2010 as a Junior Software Engineer at REQUESTEC TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LIMITED. Thom gained early experience in software development before taking on an internship as a Software Engineer at Mode7 Games in 2009, where they contributed to the creation of a C++ library for interfacing with specialized video output hardware.

Thom Shutt pursued their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Computing from Imperial College London between 2006 and 2009.
