James Smith

James Smith is an experienced professional with a strong background in the marine and offshore sectors, having worked at Lloyd's Register since 1995 in various roles, culminating in the position of In-Service Product Executive. Smith has demonstrated leadership as the Global Head of Classification, overseeing key technical solutions and client support. As Vice President for Marine and Offshore in North Asia, Smith managed significant operations in a high-demand region, achieving leadership in market share and expanding into new business areas. Previous roles include Area Manager for North China and Office Manager for regions in Japan and China. Smith's early career involved marine surveying across multiple countries and an engineering internship with East Japan Railway Company. Academically, Smith holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Modern Language from The University of Sheffield, a Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering Management from the University of Bath, and additional studies at Kyushu University.
