Michael Allison

Director of Creative Technology at Local Projects

Michael Allison has a diverse and extensive work experience in various roles within the field of creative technology. Michael is currently serving as the Director of Creative Technology at Local Projects since May 2022. Prior to that, they were the owner and freelance creative technologist at Person Place and Thing Technologies, LLC, starting from August 2016.

In terms of teaching experience, Michael worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor of the Arts at New York University Abu Dhabi from August 2021 to June 2022. Michael taught courses on XR development and immersive narrative, as well as media creation and storytelling.

From November 2018 to June 2022, Michael worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Scatter, where they developed and maintained the Depthkit Volumetric Capture Software and its Unity integration for real-time volumetric video reconstruction.

Michael also served as Adjunct Faculty at New York University - Polytechnic School of Engineering from September 2020 to February 2021. During this time, they taught and developed a curriculum for the "Professional Certificate in AR/VR Development and 3D Graphics" course, focusing on Unity-based XR development and prototyping.

In addition, Michael worked as a Creative Technologist at Local Projects from May 2018 to November 2018. Michael developed custom front-end software for generative and design assets and also worked on an AR application for iOS.

Earlier in their career, Michael held roles such as Head of Technology and Director of Software Development at Midnight Commercial from September 2017 to March 2018 and May 2016 to September 2017, respectively. Michael also gained experience as a Design Technologist at Intersection Co., Lead Developer at Patten Studio, and Design Technologist at Control Group.

Overall, Michael Allison has demonstrated expertise in creative technology, software engineering, teaching, and XR development throughout their career.

Michael Allison received their Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Multimedia Scholarship from the University of Southern California, where they studied from 2004 to 2008. Michael later pursued a Master of Professional Studies degree in the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at New York University from 2012 to 2014.
