August Lear is currently a Hardware in the Loop Engineer at Loft Orbital since 2025. Previously, August worked as a Research Assistant at Carleton University, where they developed a laboratory procedure for receiving imagery from NOAA weather satellites and authored documentation for various open-source software. They gained experience as a Student Software Engineer at Sightline Process Control Inc., focusing on modular user interfaces and code modifications for robot-vision systems. From 2022 to 2024, August contributed to RF payload software and test engineering at the Space Flight Laboratory, where they led testing and developed simulation systems for spacecraft RF payloads. August holds a Master of Applied Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering from Carleton University.
