Steven J. Sherman

Managing Director at Loop Capital

Mr. Sherman has over 35 years of valuation and diligence experience related to acquisitions, divestitures, financial reporting, tax planning, and expert testimony. His experience includes fairness and solvency opinions, purchase price allocations and impairment testing. He has valued and assessed most types of intangible assets including patents, trade names, franchises, customer relationships, earn-outs, and non-compete agreements. Additional experience includes extensive litigation support work, (e.g., damages and lost profits), mediation/arbitration on multi-billion dollar disputes, investigative work on due diligence and quality of earnings projects, and divestiture advice and negotiation assistance on transactions in many industries.

Prior to joining Loop Capital, Steve led KPMG’s Global Valuations Practice for seven years, overseeing a network of 1,200 professionals in more than 50 countries, and led KPMG’s US Valuations practice from 2003 until 2011. He served as Chairman of the Standards Board of the International Valuations Standards Council (IVSC) for six years ending in 2016. The IVSC is recognized globally as the leading standards setter for the valuation profession.

Mr. Sherman has lectured extensively to organizations including the AICPA, the American Society of Appraisers and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and has provided expert perspectives on valuation issues to media outlets worldwide. Steve is a board member of the Chicago Urban League and the Anti-Defamation League.

Mr. Sherman holds an M.B.A from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.B.A from Ohio University. He is a CPA, licensed in Illinois and is a Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers.
