Chao Yu

Founder & CEO at LoopX

Chao Yu has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. They founded LoopX in 2021 and serve as the CEO. Prior to that, Chao worked as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at the University of Waterloo from 2020 onwards. From 2012 to 2020, they held various roles at SAIC General Motors, including Engineering Group Manager, Electrification Software Engineer, and Electrification Calibration Engineer. In 2018, Chao worked as a Senior Control System Engineer at General Motors. They began their career with a summer internship at Unilever in 2010.

Chao Yu's education history is as follows:

From 2022 to 2025, Chao Yu attended the University of Waterloo, where they pursued a part-time Master's degree in Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology.

From 2020 to 2023, Chao Yu also studied at the University of Waterloo, where they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Their field of study included Autonomous Driving, Vehicle Dynamics and Control, and Machine Learning.

In 2015 and 2016, Chao Yu spent time at the University of Michigan as a Non-Candidate for Degree Student. They focused on topics such as Modeling Analysis and Control of Hybrid Electric Vehicles, as well as Modeling and Analysis of Vehicle Systems.

Prior to their time at the University of Michigan, Chao Yu earned a Master's degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This degree was in Automotive Engineering Technology/Technician and was obtained between 2009 and 2012.

Chao Yu's undergraduate education was completed at Wuhan University of Technology from 2005 to 2009. They earned a Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering Technology/Technician during this period.
