Chip Laingen, CDR, USN (Ret.), M.P.A. has a diverse work experience background. Chip is currently a contributing member at the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal Leadership Trust. In 2004, they began working as the Executive Director of Defense Alliance, a defense technology cluster funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration and endorsed by the Department of Defense. From 2016 onwards, they held the position of Corporate Vice President, Midwest Region at LSI, a government business and economic development company. In 2011, they became a graduate faculty member at the Technological Leadership Institute, University of Minnesota. Other roles include being a steering committee member at Full Stack St. Paul, a board of advisors member at Cleantech Open, an advisory board member at the Cyber Security Summit, and an owner of Laingen Communications, providing executive writing and speechwriting services. Chip has also served on the advisory board of Robotics Alley Conference & Expo and was a review board member at Minnesota Cup.

Chip Laingen, CDR, USN (Ret.), M.P.A. pursued Ph.D. studies in National Security at The Fletcher School at Tufts University from 1996 to 1997. Prior to that, they obtained a Masters in Public Affairs from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs from 1991 to 1993. Chip completed their undergraduate education at the University of Minnesota from 1979 to 1983, earning a BA in International Relations with a minor in Naval Science. Chip completed high school at Mercersbury Academy in 1979. Lastly, their primary education was at the American International School of Kabul from 1968 to 1972. In addition, Chip Laingen possesses additional certifications in Navy Subspecialty Codes - General Political Science and National Security Policy from the Pentagon, obtained in the year 2000.
