Barbara L Dutrow

Professor

Barbara L Dutrow is a distinguished professor at Louisiana State University since August 2002, specializing in mineralogy, metamorphic petrology, fluid-rock interactions, and high-temperature geochemistry. In addition to teaching and research, Barbara serves as the curator of the mineralogy collections at the LSU Museum of Natural History. Barbara's leadership roles include serving as a Board of Governor at the Gemological Institute of America from November 2016 to November 2025, where strategic guidance was provided across multiple committees, and as Past President of the Geological Society of America from July 2021 to August 2023. Barbara's extensive educational background includes a Ph.D. in Geosciences from Southern Methodist University and postdoctoral studies at Ruhr University Bochum. In 2018, Barbara began executive education at Harvard Business School, enhancing leadership skills relevant to the gemological field.
