Kat Ely is an experienced mechanical engineer and design professional with expertise in product development, project management, and team coordination. Starting in 2021, Kat worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Meter, where they were involved in mechanical design and prototyping for the company's flagship product. Additionally, they mentored interns and more junior engineers.
From 2017 to 2021, Kat worked at Formlabs as a Design Engineer. In this role, they were responsible for mechanical engineering and product management for the Fuse Sift, a breakout station for the Fuse1 SLS 3D printer. Kat played a key role in defining product architecture and balancing user experience with technical feasibility and cost targets. Kat also managed the product roadmap, project resources, and cross-functional team alignment.
Prior to joining Formlabs, Kat was a Cofounder and Principal Designer at CLEAR design lab from 2012 to 2018. In this role, they managed daily operations and was responsible for the full client acquisition process, scope definition, project management, and resource allocation.
In 2012, Kat also worked as a Manager at Metalwerx, where they taught courses on glass casting, moldmaking, and casting for jewelry designers. Kat'sresponsibilities included project management, scheduling, marketing material design, and student enrollment.
As a Consultant at the New England Aquarium in 2012-2013, Kat provided expertise in creating fiberglass architecture and realistic cast resin coral for the rebuilding of the Giant Ocean Tank. Kat trained and managed a team of two for the project.
Before that, Kat served as a Materials Specialist at Reynolds Advanced Materials from 2011 to 2012, where they provided consulting services for projects in various industries and achieved significant sales growth. Kat also conducted mold making and casting seminars.
Kat began their career as an Artist Assistant at Montague Studios from 2007 to 2011 and at Ross Art Studio from 2006 to 2007.

Kat Ely completed their high school education at Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School from 1999 to 2003. Kat then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a focus in Sculpture at Massachusetts College of Art and Design from 2003 to 2007.
