Tom van Sonsbeek

Tom van Sonsbeek has a diverse background in biomedical technology and machine learning, with experience spanning various academic and industry roles. From November 2015 to December 2019, Tom worked as a Student Assistant at Eindhoven University of Technology, assisting with a course on programming and genomics. This was followed by a PhD candidacy at the University of Amsterdam from January 2020 to March 2025, focusing on multimodal learning from Electronic Health Records and medical images. Tom has held positions as an Image Analysis Engineer at CytoSMART Technologies BV, developing deep learning algorithms, and as a Research Intern at Microsoft, where methods for personalizing Large Language Models were developed. Currently, Tom serves as an Applied Research Scientist at Lunit Cancer Screening. Educational credentials include a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Technology from Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, a Master's in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from the same institution, and ongoing PhD studies at the University of Amsterdam, following a research internship at the University of British Columbia.
