Matthew Murphy

Matthew Murphy has a diverse work experience in the field of metallurgy and research and development. Matthew currently holds the position of Head of Magnesium R&D at Luxfer MEL Technologies, where they have successfully led new product developments, including the SoluMag brand of products. Matthew has also generated patents and unique intellectual property for the company. Before Luxfer, Matthew worked as a Technical Lead at Luxfer MEL Technologies, overseeing alloy and process development projects. Prior to that, they were a Metallurgist at Luxfer MEL Technologies, managing alloy development programs and providing intensive customer support. Matthew also worked as a Company Metallurgist and Assistant Quality Manager at Holt Heat Treatment Limited, where they provided technical support and assisted in maintaining the quality system. Earlier in their career, they were a Development Metallurgist at Magnesium Elektron, leading alloy development programs and providing customer support. Matthew's work experience began as a Student Researcher at Innovia Films, where they gained experience in novel projects and small-scale processing equipment.

Matthew Murphy received their education from 2006 to 2016. Matthew began by earning a Master of Chemistry (MChem) degree with a focus on Chemistry with Industrial Experience from The University of Manchester. Following this, they pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Skills at The University of Sheffield from 2011 to 2015. Finally, Matthew completed their highest level of education, a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Materials Science, at The University of Manchester from 2011 to 2016.
