In 1983, they joined TeleSoft, Inc. as a Software Engineer, where they played a significant role in porting the TeleSoft Ada compiler, tools, and runtime to various operating systems and real-time operating systems. John also contributed to the first ACVC validation of TeleSoft Ada compilers on Ada83.

In 1994, Blevins moved to Lynx Real Time Systems and took on the role of a Software Engineer. In this position, they developed integrated development environments (IDEs) based on Visual Studio, CodeWarrior, and Eclipse and managed the development of compilers, debuggers, and performance analyzers for the LynxOS family of real-time operating system (RTOS) products.

Blevins continued their career at Lynx Software Technologies, starting in 2000. John held various positions, including Director of Software Tools Development, Director of Product Marketing, and Director of Software Engineering. These roles involved overseeing the development of software tools, managing software engineering teams, and contributing to product marketing strategies.

Most recently, in 2019, Blevins joined Xilinx, Inc. as a Senior Manager in the Embedded Software Ecosystem. Their responsibilities in this role include managing and leading teams focused on developing and enhancing the ecosystem for embedded software solutions.
