Machine Tool Research (MTR) is an employee-owned machine tool builder specializing in the building, rebuilding, retrofitting, and modernization of large industrial machine tools. We partner with manufacturers across North America to extend the life, accuracy, and performance of critical equipment through precision craftsmanship and engineering expertise.

As an ESOP company, our employees don’t just work here — they share in ownership. That mindset drives accountability, collaboration, and pride in the work we deliver every day.
Headquartered in Rochester, NY, MTR employs skilled trades professionals, technicians, engineers, and support teams who value reliability, quality, and teamwork. We’re committed to developing our people, supporting careers in the skilled trades, and building a workplace where ownership and craftsmanship go hand in hand.
