Gihan Samarasinghe

Gihan Samarasinghe is a Machine Learning and AI expert with extensive experience in leading projects and research across various organizations. Currently serving as the Machine Learning and AI Lead at Macuject since May 2022, Gihan spearheads R&D to create innovative software aimed at preventing blindness. Prior positions include Project Lead at Transport for NSW, Senior AI Engineer at Harrison.ai, and Team Lead at Lumachain, specializing in Computer Vision and Machine Learning solutions. Gihan has previously contributed to academia as a Lecturer and Postdoctoral Researcher at UNSW, focusing on machine learning applications in healthcare and environmental sciences, while also engaging in several impactful research initiatives and collaborations in medical imaging and analysis. Gihan holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from UNSW and a BSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Peradeniya.
