Senior Electrical Engineer at Maglev Aero

John Bates has worked in the power electronics field since 1993. John began their career as a College Instructor at The University of Akron, teaching courses on electric vehicles. In 1996, they moved to Lincoln Electric as a Product Development Engineer, where they were the lead engineer on two welding power source products. In 2000, they joined Ford Motor Company as a Power Electronics Engineer, where they were responsible for new product design, design verification testing, supplier management, product manufacturing process verification, release into production, and field service support. From 2004 to 2012, John held roles at Tron Controls LLP and Gridco Systems as a Partner and Senior Power Electronics and EMC Engineer, respectively. John then moved to Yaskawa Solectria Solar in 2014, where they served as a Senior Power Electronics and EMC Engineer. In 2018, they joined XL Fleet as a Sr Power Electronics Engineer. Most recently, they began working at Maglev Aero in 2021 as a Senior Electrical Engineer.

John Bates received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from The University of Akron in 1995 and a Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering from The University of Akron in 1995.
