Rob James has a diverse work experience in the field of software engineering that spans over two decades. Rob started their career as a Freelance Programmer at Affordable Business Computers in 2002, where they developed a graduated repayment calculator for a student loan website using JavaScript and worked on Classic ASP development and testing. In the same year, they also worked as a Contract Programmer at NetMediaOne and NowDocs/Taylor Corp.
In 2003, Rob worked as a Contract Programmer at Aquent, where they were responsible for creating "table-less" websites using HTML and CSS with an OO Perl backend and MySQL database. Rob also undertook the database design for the project. Shortly after, they joined Tek Systems as a Contract Programmer, where they worked with IBM on Perl library Mason, primarily focusing on Perl and JavaScript development along with HTML and CSS work. Rob later transitioned to Alcoa, where they designed and developed in C#.
Rob's career then took him to XO Group Inc. (formerly known as The Knot, Inc.) in 2005, where they worked as a Sr. Software Engineer. Here, they moved several applications and internal frameworks from VS2008 .Net 3.5 to VS2010.
In 2012, Rob joined The Advisory Board Company as a Senior Software Engineer. During their seven-year tenure, they created a caching library Nuget package, which replaced an existing caching framework and saved the company money on licensing. Rob also added features to allow the use of multiple caching frameworks simultaneously and made the library extendable for future additions.
Most recently, in 2019, Rob joined Magnus Technology Group as a Senior Software Engineer.
Rob James attended the University of Kentucky from 1992 to 1993, where they studied Music Business. In 1993, they also briefly attended the University of South Carolina, focusing on Music. Additionally, in July 2020, Rob obtained certification as an AWS Certified Developer – Associate from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
