Malanseuns Pleasure Plants was founded on the Northern slopes of the Magaliesberg, at Rosslyn, near Pretoria. It is still on the same premises where it was started in 1913, by Danie Malan (1888 - 1961), as a deciduous fruit farm. The surplus fruit trees were sold to the public.

In 1957, Jimie Malan (1938 - 2000) and three of his brothers started producing ornamental plants as complementary business. Eventually he became the sole owner. Very soon ornamental plants in containers developed into the main industry, which is a world leader today.

To get better distribution, several depots were opened in Pretoria and Johannesburg, as the wholesaling of plants were still a sin in those days! From these depots a network of Garden Centres was developed and are still operated under the names of Plantpark, Plantland and Plant Ranch.

Malanseuns Pleasure Plants and Plantland are owned by Jacques Malan, Jimie's son.
