Stephen Brown

Stephen Brown is an accomplished conservation scientist with extensive experience in research and leadership. Currently serving as Vice President for Science at Manomet since November 2021, Stephen focuses on utilizing science and collaboration to enhance flyways, coastal ecosystems, and working lands across the Western Hemisphere. Previously, as Director of Shorebird Science at Manomet from 1997 to 2013, Stephen directed research to identify factors limiting shorebird populations to improve conservation strategies. Early career roles include a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where Stephen studied wetland mitigation effectiveness, and as an Environmental Policy Specialist for the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council, where leadership was provided in developing wetland protection policies. Stephen holds a PhD in Natural Resources from Cornell University, an M.S. in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Hampshire College.
