Senior Regional Planner

Sam Cleaves, AICP, is the Principal Regional Planner at the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), where they focus on sustainable land use, energy, and environmental planning. They have held this position since 2015 and worked as a Senior Regional Planner at MAPC since 2000. Previously, Sam served as the Planning Director for the City of Gloucester, MA, from 1996 to 2000 and was the Program Coordinator for the Massachusetts Bay Program - Salem Sound Coastwatch from 1992 to 1996. Sam is also a member of the Gloucester Clean Energy Commission since 2009. They earned a Master's degree in Resource Management and Administration from Antioch University New England and a Bachelor's degree in Social Thought and Political Economy from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
