Marea is an Icelandic start-up at the forefront of sustainable innovation, harnessing the extraordinary potential of algae to transform waste into valuable, biodegradable solutions.

We are committed to replacing and eliminating traditional plastic packaging by developing alternative materials that seamlessly integrate into the circular economy.

Our journey began with a vision to reshape how we perceive and handle waste. Seeking to leverage Iceland's pristine environment and abundant renewable resources, including geothermal energy and pure water, we are developing cutting-edge coatings and bioplastics that are not only eco-conscious but also perform at the highest standards.

At Marea, we believe that the future lies in tapping into nature’s brilliance. Our algae-based technologies not only reduce reliance on conventional plastics but also help address the growing global concern over plastic pollution. By turning waste streams into high-value, sustainable products, we are expanding the possibilities of packaging and beyond.

Driven by a passion for sustainability, creativity, and innovation, Marea is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. We’re not just developing products; we’re committed to driving impactful change through our actions and partnerships, aligning every step with our vision of a cleaner, more sustainable world.

Join us on our journey as we pioneer new, sustainable solutions, helping industries make choices that contribute to a healthier planet, one algae-based product at a time.
