Emma Verling is a Research Fellow at MaREI since March 2019, currently serving as project Co-ordinator for the Horizon Europe Project Marine SABRES, aimed at conserving biodiversity through sustainable ecosystem integration. Previously, Emma held roles as a Senior Post-doctoral Researcher working on marine energy projects focusing on the environmental impacts of Wave Energy Devices and sustainable initiatives for the Dingle Peninsula. From September 2005 to September 2015, Emma was a Marine Monitoring Manager at JNCC, leading a team in monitoring the marine environment for compliance with various legislative directives. Before that, Emma worked as a Marine Ecologist, analyzing scientific data for policy implementation. Emma's early career included a position as a Post Doctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian Institution, concentrating on management measures for Non-Indigenous Species in marine environments. Emma obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology/Animal Biology from University College Cork.
