Ross O'Connell is a researcher at MaREI since February 2019, leading the Wet Storage project funded by ESB and Shannon Foynes Port, which focuses on the nearshore storage of floating offshore wind turbines. O'Connell also works on the EU-sponsored Selkie project, developing a web-based techno-economic GIS for wave and tidal energy in Ireland and Wales. Additional experience includes a role as Geographic Information System Assistant for the EirWind project, and serving as a public representative and Councillor on Cork County Council from February 2020 to January 2024. O'Connell's educational background includes a Master of Science in Geoinformatics from the University of Copenhagen and a Bachelor of Science in Project Management from Munster Technological University, among other qualifications.
