Eight of the ten largest cities in the world are on the coast. The land those cities can build on is running out.

Island nations are reclaiming land from the sea because there is nowhere left to build on the land they have. The Maldives is dredging its own lagoon floors to manufacture new ground, destroying the reefs that protect the islands from storms and attract the tourists who generate the national income. Gulf states are constructing artificial islands because demand for waterfront development long ago exceeded what the natural coastline can support. The traditional answer to coastal land scarcity is consuming the very environment that makes coastal land worth having.

Coastal land is fixed by geography. The ocean does not expand inland. Between 2000 and 2018 alone, the population living within 10 kilometres of the water grew by 233 million people — the equivalent of 23 new megacities built at the water's edge. That growth is not slowing, and the land to absorb it is not expanding. Waterfront properties trade at a 30–50% premium over comparable inland homes because the scarcity is permanent and the demand never stops. Rising sea levels add urgency to what was already an inevitable constraint — driving government policy, sustainability mandates, and the search for coastal development that works with water rather than against it.

Marenium was founded on a simple conviction: the next frontier for coastal development is not beside the water. It is on it.

MARENIUM® manufactures modular floating structures — starting with a prefabricated floating underwater villa for luxury coastal resorts. Each villa is factory-built, container-shipped, and ready for guests within six months of order. No land required. No coastline consumed.

We do not reclaim land from the sea. We build a new relationship with it.
