David Roddy has worked in various engineering roles since 2005. David began their career as a 2nd Assistant Engineer onboard the University of Washington R/V Thomas G. Thompson. There, they gained experience in all aspects of Diesel-Electric plant operation and worked extensively with Caterpillar 3508's and 3516's, including engine repairs, valve lash settings, and injector timing settings.
In 2006, they became a 1st Assistant Engineer onboard the Transatlantic Lines M/V Baffin Strait, where they were responsible for supervision of the Engineering Department and Plant operations. David gained experience with Wartsila Medium Speed Vasa 9R32E controllable pitch propeller propulsion systems, including numerous cylinder head and fuel pump replacements as well as automation troubleshoots.
From 2007 to 2010, they were a 1st Assistant Engineer onboard the University of Hawaii R/V Kilo Moana. There, they were a senior ships engineering officer and worked with a Diesel-Electric plant consisting of two, 1.5 MW Westinghouse DC motors and an Elliot White Gill Bow Thruster Unit.
Finally, from 2010 to 2018, they were a Lead Operational Engineer at Markley.
Overall, David Roddy has gained extensive experience in engineering roles and has worked with various types of Diesel-Electric plants and propulsion systems.
David Roddy attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy from 1995 to 1999, where they earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
