David Golightly has a diverse work experience spanning several roles and companies. David is currently a Staff Software Engineer at MasterClass, starting in October 2021. David secured a large contract with a client and led a team of 10 to rebuild their app, resulting in new business opportunities and reduced operating costs. From January 2015 to February 2016, they served as the Chief Technical Officer at SIREN. In their early career, David held roles such as Senior Software Developer at Substantial, Developer/Architect at GoTime, and Lead Front-End Software Development Engineer at Zillow.com. David also worked as an SDE at Volt @ Microsoft and as a Cave Naturalist at Sequoia Natural History Association, where they gave tours, assisted visitors, and contributed to public outreach and education.

David Golightly attended the University of Louisville from 1997 to 2002, where they obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition. In addition, they attended Johannes Gutenberg University from 2000 to 2001 to study Electronic Music and German, although they did not obtain a specific degree in that field. Furthermore, they have obtained additional certifications in Software Security, Usable Security, and Machine Learning from Coursera, in December 2017, November 2017, and October 2017 respectively.
