Derek Finlayson

Derek Finlayson has a diverse work experience in the field of human resources. Derek began their career in 2001 as a Groundskeeper at Pleasant Grove City, where they were responsible for landscaping parks and supervising seasonal workers. In 2005, they joined the State of Utah as a Developmentalist, providing direct care services to individuals with disabilities.

In 2010, Derek joined Marc Community Resources as an Assistant Director of Human Resources, where they handled various HR duties such as benefit selection, recruiting, records management, and employee investigations. Derek also supervised a team of up to five HR employees and was responsible for OSHA and EEOC reporting.

Derek's next role was at Winder Farms, where they served as the Director of Human Resources. Here, they led a team of HR professionals, implementing HR strategies and initiatives to support the company's mission and success. Derek oversaw culture development, employee engagement, recruitment, and ADP systems, among other responsibilities.

In 2020, Derek joined Roosevelt City Corporation as a Human Resources Consultant, providing HR support while the city looked to hire a full-time HR representative. Their role included recruiting, employee relations, employee documentation, training systems, and policy development.

Derek's most recent position is at MasterControl, where they started in 2018 as a Human Resources Manager. Derek progressed through the ranks, serving as a Senior Human Resources Manager, Human Resources Director, and currently holds the position of Vice President of Human Resources.

Overall, Derek has gained extensive experience in various HR roles, demonstrating their expertise in areas such as employee relations, recruitment, training, benefits administration, and policy development.

Derek Finlayson holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix, which they obtained from 2010 to 2012. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor of Behavioral Science degree in Psychology at Utah Valley University from 2004 to 2009. Derek received their high school diploma from Pleasant Grove High School in 2000. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications, including PSI Certification - Seminar (BASIC) from PSI Seminars in July 2015, Notary Public from the State of Utah in March 2016, Professional in Human Resources® (PHR®) from HRCI in August 2020, and Professional Human Resource (PHR) from HR Certification Institute - HRCI in November 2016.
