Director, Site Reliability Engineering - Hinge at Match Group

Michael Johnson is the current Director of Site Reliability Engineering at Hinge, a Match Group company. Prior to their current role, Johnson worked as a Senior DevOps Engineer at Rakuten Marketing from August 2012 to December 2015. During their time at Rakuten Marketing, Johnson was responsible for building and maintaining the Enterprise Chef servers and 300+ nodes attached to them. Michael was also responsible for team security and penetration testing and built Spacewalk in-house to bring all systems under management. In addition, Johnson implemented and evangelized DevOps principles across many areas of the organization, resulting in all servers being managed with Chef (Berkshelf, kitchen, foodcritic, etc.). Michael also created a data pipeline from production systems to backend processors using Flume/Kafka or ActiveMQ where needed. As a key decision-maker, Johnson moved customer-facing applications into AWS and closer to the end-user via DNS geolocation. Michael also reengineered the real-time monitoring system in influxDB/Graphana.

Michael Johnson has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Michael is also certified by Offensive Security in Offensive Security Certified Expert 3 (OSCE3), Offensive Security Exploit Developer (OSED), Offensive Security Experienced Penetration Tester (OSEP), Offensive Security Web Expert (OSWE), and Offensive Security Wireless Professional (OSWP). Additionally, they have certification from Offensive Security in Offensive Security Certified Expert (OSCE) and Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP).
