It is the #1 trusted destination for thoughtful, high-quality content that celebrates, supports, and empowers Black moms, as well as women on their journey to motherhood. mater mea represents the diversity of Black motherhood and the fullness of Black womanhood, reflecting who we are as mothers, daughters, employees and employers, lovers, and friends with honesty and without judgment.
Launched in 2012 by founder and editor-in-chief Tomi Akitunde, mater mea’s mission is to support the well-being of Black mothers so that their children, families, and communities can thrive, too. It acts as a Black mom Google, providing sincere storytelling and expert advice on career, pregnancy, parenting, wellness, home, beauty and style, and travel and culture.
