James Smith

Senior Engineer-OEM Products at Material Handling Technologies Inc.

James Smith has a diverse range of work experience spanning over several decades. James began their career at IBM in 1988 as an Engineer, where they worked until 2000. During this time, they were responsible for manufacturing process design and material handling design in various locations worldwide.

After leaving IBM, James joined the IBM Personal Computer Company as a Senior Industrial Engineer from 1991 to 2000. In this role, they were responsible for process design and material handling design in Scotland, China, Mexico, and the USA.

In 2001, James joined Vertique Incorporated as a Senior Engineer, where they served as a process design engineer, IT and engineering manager. Vertique specialized in designing, fabricating, and installing automated case picking systems for beverage distribution facilities.

In 2007, James founded their own company called Process Design Group LLC, where they provided customized software applications for warehouse and distribution clients. James also offered material handling system design services for the manufacturing and distribution industry, with a focus on automated case picking and truck loading solutions.

James joined Material Handling Technologies, Inc. in 2008 as the Electrical/Controls Manager until 2014. James then joined Grenzebach Corporation as a Sales Manager from 2014 to 2016, before transitioning to the role of Director of System Engineering at Swisslog WDS - Americas from 2016 to 2018.

Currently, James holds the position of Senior Engineer-OEM Products at Material Handling Technologies Inc. beginning in 2018.

James Smith attended North Carolina State University from 1982 to 1988, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
