Mike Burns has extensive work experience in communications and public affairs. Their most recent position is Senior Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Mathematica, starting in November 2022. Prior to that, they served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs and Acting Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 2021 to 2022. From 2013 to 2021, Mike held various communications roles in the U.S. House of Representatives, including Deputy Communications Director for the House Appropriations Committee and Communications Director for several congresswomen and congressmen. Before that, they worked at Media Matters for America as a Deputy Team Leader and Researcher.
Mike Burns attended The Johns Hopkins University from 2013 to 2015, where they earned their MA degree in Government with a focus on Political Communication. Prior to that, they studied at the University of Richmond from 2006 to 2010, obtaining a BA degree in International Studies with a specialization in World Politics & Diplomacy. In 2008, they briefly attended Leiden University, focusing on Political Science, but did not complete a degree.
