Rakesh Kumar

Rakesh Kumar is a Numerical Optimization Specialist at The MathWorks since February 2002, with expertise in various optimization methods including non-linear, mixed integer linear, and quadratic solutions. Significant contributions include the design and implementation of parallel testing infrastructure for optimization solvers and the development of the Global Optimization Toolbox in MATLAB, which addresses non-smooth optimization problems. Rakesh also led the creation of single/multi-objective genetic algorithms with constraints. Prior experience as an Application Support Engineer involved assisting customers with algorithm design in MATLAB. Earlier in tenure at Indian Register of Shipping, Rakesh was involved in researching and prototyping software for the stability of container ships. Rakesh holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University and a B.Tech in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
