Michael Watson has a long history of work experience in the medical device industry. Michael began their career as a Carpenter & Joiner in 1991. In 1998, they joined the University of Aberdeen as a Researcher and Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Devices Design and Development, Orthopaedic and Cardiovascular Devices. In 2002, they moved to Finsbury Orthopaedics as a Senior Design Engineer. In 2011, they joined MatOrtho Ltd as a Senior Product Manager, where they were responsible for the strategic planning, management and coordination of the market introduction of new products including flagship hip and knee products. Michael also developed, enhanced and supported strategic initiatives and company directives to grow the existing product portfolio worldwide, including monitoring, measuring and reporting on effectiveness. Additionally, they managed all products throughout their lifecycle through coordination of cross-departmental activities. Michael also held the role of Product Manager and R&D Department Manager, where they managed new product development, clinical research, sales training, product literature, product material for advertising and web, event content, and educational activities. Michael also developed and managed the R&D department from company start.

Michael Watson has a long and varied educational history. Michael attended Wilson's School, Wallington from 1984 to 1991. Michael then went on to the University of Leeds, where they earned a BEng in Mechanical Engineering between 1993 and 1996. After that, they attended the University of Aberdeen, where they earned an MSc in Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering in 1997-1998. Michael then completed a PhD at the same university in 1998-2002. Finally, they completed a Professional Diploma in Marketing at CIM | The Chartered Institute of Marketing in 2015-2016.
