Alison Hanes has a diverse and extensive work experience history. Alison started their career as a Receptionist/Assistant at the Kingston Veterinary Clinic from June 2012 to August 2014. Alison then worked as a Referee/Skating Instructor for the Kingston Ringette Association from September 2001 to March 2018.

In 2016, Alison gained experience as a Vet Assistant at Sundance Animal Hospital from October 2016 to July 2017. During the same year, they also worked as a Research Assistant at WWT Slimbridge from February 2016 to April 2017.

Alison's wildlife research background includes working at the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Alison served as a Wildlife Research Technician (seasonal work) from July 2017 to August 2021. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Science (MSc) in Wild Animal Biology from the Royal Veterinary College, U. of London, completing it from 2015 to 2016. Alison also holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Fundamentals of GIS from Humber College, which they obtained from 2016 to 2017.

In their earlier years, Alison completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) with a specialization in Biology at the University of Ottawa from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with a specialization in Linguistics from the same university, completing it from 2006 to 2010.

In addition to their formal education, Alison has also obtained various certifications. These include the Pleasure Craft Operator Card, Standard First Aid and AED/CPR Level C from St Johns Ambulance, WHMIS 2015 for Workers, Wildlife Awareness from Enform, and Wildlife Handling and Chemical Immobilization.
