Mayur Dance is a classical Indian dance organization dedicated to teaching, preserving, and innovating within the Indian Classical dance form, Odissi. Through Mayur Dance Academy and Mayur Dance Company, the organization offers high-quality training, thoughtful choreography, and culturally rooted performances that connect students and audiences to one of India’s oldest classical art forms. The Academy provides a structured learning environment where dancers of all ages can study technique, rhythm, expression, and storytelling, while developing the discipline and confidence essential to Odissi. Classes emphasize both the precision of the form and the artistic individuality of each student, allowing dancers to grow at their own pace while remaining grounded in classical rigor.

The Company serves as the performance arm of the organization, presenting work that blends traditional Odissi vocabulary with contemporary ideas, new narratives, and creative collaborations. Performances often weave together poetry, music, and movement to explore themes that resonate across cultures, making Odissi accessible and meaningful to broad audiences. The Company’s dancers train intensively and participate in community events, festivals, and original productions that highlight the depth and versatility of the art form.

Led by Artistic Director Sukanya Mukherji, Mayur Dance is committed to nurturing a vibrant Odissi community in the United States. The organization supports emerging dancers, encourages lifelong learning, and fosters meaningful connections between classical heritage and modern expression. Through training, performance, and community engagement, Mayur Dance continues to build an inclusive space where cultural tradition, artistic exploration, and educational excellence come together.
