Jan Hamers is a professor of Care of Older People at Maastricht University in the Netherlands and a visiting professor at the University of Leeds. They are the chief executive officer of MeanderGroep Zuid-Limburg and founded the Living Lab in Ageing and Long-Term Care (Academische Werkplaats Ouderenzorg Limburg), a formal collaboration between care providers and universities that operated from 1998 to 2024. Their research spans nursing science, gerontology, health sciences, medicine, data science, technology and service science, with teamscience and interdisciplinarity as core concepts. They have secured more than €14 million in major research grants, including EU-FP7 and Horizon 2020. They earned a HAVO diploma (1978-1983), a Bachelor of Nursing (1983-1987), a Master of Health Sciences in Nursing Science (1987-1990), and a PhD (1991-1995) from Maastricht University.
