James Bateman

CEO & Co-Founder at Medchart

James Bateman has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. James co-founded and served as the CEO of Marble, a company they started in 2022. Prior to Marble, they co-founded and served as CEO of MedChart from 2014 to 2022. James also held the role of CEO of MedChart at UofT Entrepreneurship Hatchery from 2014 to 2015.

Before their ventures in tech startups, Bateman founded and served as CEO of Devra Sports Development from 2008 to 2014. James also gained experience in research as a Research Studentship in MRI at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in 2012. Additionally, they worked as a Summer Mechatronics Developer at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) in 2011.

Bateman's earlier experiences include founding and operating their own construction company, Covalent Construction; co-founding a new homes framing company; serving as a Health and Safety Manager at D&M Group of Companies; and working as a Carpenter Apprentice at Newstar Framing.

James Bateman has a strong educational background in the field of engineering. James obtained a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Toronto in Applied Science in Engineering Science with a Major in Engineering Physics, which they completed between the years 2009 and 2013. Following this, they pursued a Master's Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the same university from 2013 to 2016. James further advanced their education by completing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto between 2015 and 2019.

In addition to their degrees, James Bateman also holds a certification in Engineering Business, which they obtained from the University of Toronto in 2013. No specific information is available regarding the timing of the certification.

Outside of their formal education, James Bateman also possesses a certification in Interprovincial Red Seal Trades General Carpenter, which they acquired from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
