James Small is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and materials science industries. Currently serving as Director at Merck since January 2006, James leads the NMR Structure Elucidation Group, focusing on the discovery and development of small molecule and vaccine therapeutics, overseeing both GMP and non-GMP workflows critical for the Merck pipeline. Prior to this role, James held various positions, including Team Leader of the Polymers Team at Los Alamos National Laboratory from September 1998 to December 2005, managing a team focused on the aging and degradation of polymeric components. James holds a PhD in Polymer Chemistry from UC Irvine and a BS in Chemistry from Creighton University.
