Richard Chen

Richard Chen is a seasoned biology professional with extensive experience in early discovery and translational studies related to chronic diseases and fibrotic indications. Currently serving as Director of Biology at Merck since March 2022, Richard focuses on chronic diseases affecting the lung, kidney, and heart. Prior to this role, Richard held positions at Acceleron Pharma as Associate Director, where responsibilities included the early discovery and translational study of chronic kidney disease, liver fibrosis, and pulmonary arterial hypertension. Richard's previous experience also includes significant contributions as Principal Scientist and Senior Scientist II at Morphic Therapeutic, specializing in preclinical studies related to fibrotic conditions, and as Senior Scientist at Novo Nordisk, focusing on metabolic diseases and their complications. Richard completed a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Tumor Immunology at Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University from January 1991 to December 1997.
