Smita Mitra

Smita Mitra is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in commercial data science and advanced analytics within the pharmaceutical industry. Currently serving as Executive Director and Head of Commercial Data Science & GenAI at Merck since January 2025, Smita previously held various leadership roles at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine from March 2014 to December 2024, including Director of Commercial Data Science and Principal Scientist in Machine Learning. Prior to this, Smita worked at Pfizer as Sr. Manager of the Primary Care Business Unit and as a Sr. Scientist in Research Business Technology. Smita began the career at IBM as a Sr. IT Architect from 2002 to 2005. Educationally, Smita holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Penn State University, a Master’s in Chemistry/Biochemistry from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with honors from the University of Calcutta.
