Maya Benowitz has a diverse range of work experience in various industries. In 2014, they worked as a Research Intern at the Zhou Lab, focusing on the pathophysiology and therapeutics of oxidative stress-related diseases. Maya then joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a Research Intern, where they investigated optical properties of Mitoview 633 in live mitochondria. In 2011, they worked as a Research Assistant in the Physics Department at Utah State University, conducting research on algebraic graph theory and operator theory. During this time, they discovered and proved a theorem related to fractional walks in a graph. Maya also worked as a Lab Teaching Assistant and Research Technician at Utah State University, where they collected global-warming data with an upper-atmospheric LIDAR system. In 2015, they became a Postbaccalaureate Research Fellow at the University of Iowa, where they focused on measuring the energetics of membrane protein assembly. In 2016, Maya became the CTO & Co-Founder of Benowitz International Glass Products, LLC., a start-up that connected glazing contractors to a global distribution network. Their work involved applying machine learning to ensure on-time deliveries for construction projects and contributing to the construction of large buildings. In 2019, they joined Dataquest.io as a Hedgecraft, completing data science courses and developing an open-source asset allocation algorithm. Maya later joined CarVal Investors as a Lead Data Scientist (front-office) in 2019. Their role focused on developing and deploying large-scale machine learning models to boost risk-adjusted returns. Maya Benowitz is currently working at Datasite as an AI/ML Scientist, starting in 2022.
Maya Benowitz attended Utah State University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics with Distinction in Research. In addition to their formal education, they also earned several certifications from Dataquest.io. These certifications include "Data Analyst Path In Python," "Probability and Statistics in Python: Intermediate," "SQL and Databases: Advanced," "Exploratory Data Visualization," "Pandas and Numpy Fundamentals," "Python for Data Science: Fundamentals," "Python for Data Science: Intermediate," and "Storytelling Through Data Visualization." The dates of obtaining these certifications range from April to June 2019. Maya also has additional certifications in various subjects, such as APIs and Web Scraping, Command Line, Data Cleaning Project Walkthrough, Data Cleaning and Analysis Course, Git and Version Control, SQL Fundamentals, SQL Intermediate: Table Relations and Joins Course, Statistics Fundamentals, and Statistics Intermediate: Averages and Variability.
