Akhil Mathur

Akhil Mathur is an accomplished AI Research Scientist at Meta Superintelligence Labs since December 2022, focusing on areas such as reasoning, agents, memory, and reinforcement learning, and is a core contributor to Llama 3. Prior to this role, Akhil spent over a decade at Nokia Bell Labs, where experience included serving as Principal Research Scientist and Distinguished Member of Technical Staff. In that capacity, Akhil led research on mobile and embedded deep learning, emphasizing federated training and model adaptation for efficient deployment on edge devices. Earlier roles included Senior Research Scientist, where Akhil developed solutions to enhance the performance of deep learning algorithms on resource-constrained devices, and Research Scientist, where Akhil focused on technology solutions for emerging markets, notably developing the CommunityWeb platform for under-served populations in India. Akhil holds a PhD in Machine Learning from UCL, an MS in Computer Science from the University of Toronto, and a BTech in Computer Science from Dhirubhai Ambani University.
