Carmen Au

Carmen Au is a seasoned software engineering leader with extensive experience in generative AI, localization, and mapping technologies. Currently serving as Senior Software Engineering Manager at Meta since April 2022, Carmen builds and leads initiatives within the Generative AI organization. Previously, as Head of Location Platform and SLAM at Meta, Carmen oversaw the development of localization and mapping pipelines for AR and VR devices. With prior experience at Facebook and Uber, Carmen has a strong background in traffic infrastructure, live video technology, and map creation. Carmen's earlier roles at Microsoft and Nokia involved advancing 3D mapping algorithms and developing mixed reality applications. An accomplished academic, Carmen holds a PhD and Master's degree in Computer Engineering, as well as a Bachelor's degree in the same field, all from McGill University.
