Mariya Vasileva

Mariya Vasileva possesses a diverse and extensive background in research and engineering, highlighted by current work as a Senior Research Scientist at Meta since March 2025. Beginning with an internship at Sofia Echo Media in 2008, Mariya has held various roles including Mechanical Engineer at Schlumberger, Machine Learning Researcher at Butterfly Network, Inc., and Applied Scientist at Amazon. Additionally, Mariya has experience in academia as a Doctoral Student and Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has contributed to teaching through several positions as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in applied machine learning and mechanics. Notably, Mariya served as the WiML Workshop General Chair in 2021 and held the position of Head of Research at Kaiber from May to December 2023. Education includes a Bachelor of Science from the California Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
