Shen-Chi Chen

Shen-Chi Chen is an experienced Applied Research Scientist at Meta since March 2020, specializing in AR/VR, codec avatars, and the Metaverse within the Facebook Reality Labs (FRL). Previously, Shen-Chi served as a Senior Research Scientist at JD, contributing to computer vision, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning, where efforts led to the initiation of a cloud service for automatic image-based car damage recognition. Prior roles include Senior Staff Software Engineer at Huawei Technologies, focusing on deep learning and AI frameworks while achieving significant performance improvements in object detection models, and a Computer Vision Research Intern at Bosch USA, who proposed weather recognition methods using deep learning. Initial research experience includes a position as a Research Assistant at Academia Sinica, Taiwan, working on object and event detection for surveillance. Shen-Chi holds a PhD in Computer Science from National Taiwan University and spent time as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Washington.
