Steve Satterfield is the VP and Associate General Counsel for Privacy at Meta. Steve was previously an associate at Covington & Burling LLP, where they were a member of the Global Privacy & Data Security practice group. There, they defended leading online service providers in lawsuits alleging violations of privacy and consumer-protection laws, and advised clients on complying with privacy, data security, advertising and other consumer-protection laws and self-regulatory regimes. Steve also draft and negotiated agreements for a variety of consumer-facing and business-to-business online services, advised clients on responding to data security incidents, and assisted clients with legislative and policy initiatives on privacy and data security. Prior to that, they were a law clerk for The Hon. William D. Quarles, Jr., United States District Judge for the District of Maryland, where they assisted the judge in drafting opinions and orders for a variety of civil and criminal matters, and in managing eight jury trials.
Steve Satterfield attended the George Washington University Law School, where they earned their JD. Steve then went on to earn their M.A. in English from Brown University. Finally, they earned their B.A. in English and Spanish from the University of Pittsburgh.
