Steven Hetzler is an accomplished Storage Engineer at Meta, where since January 2021, strategic storage direction has been significantly altered, including a transition from HDD to QLC flash for Warm Storage and the elimination of tape for archival and backup storage. Previously, as an IBM Fellow and Cloud Data Architecture Manager from 1985 to January 2021, Steven invented numerous technologies in storage systems and led innovations in optical and tape storage, while also being recognized for initiating and naming iSCSI. Steven holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Caltech and a B.A. in Physics from Carleton College, with a notable record of over 100 patents and multiple publications.
