Ullas Gargi is an experienced professional with a strong background in machine learning, content understanding, and video recommendations. Currently serving in the IG Well-Being Leadership at Meta since June 2022, Ullas focuses on enhancing safety and integrity for Instagram users through applied machine learning and recommendation improvements. Prior to this, Ullas worked at YouTube from April 2015 to May 2022, holding various leadership roles including Engineering Lead for Content Understanding and ML for Shops/Ads, and Senior Staff Software Engineer/Manager for Music Understanding. Ullas also played a significant role at Google from 2006 to 2015, notably as Tech Lead for YouTube Recommendations and as a founding member of the video content analysis team. Earlier experience includes a position as Senior Research Scientist at Hewlett Packard Enterprise and an internship at Xerox PARC. Ullas holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering from Penn State University and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Utah State University.
