Yuning Chai

Yuning Chai is currently serving as the Director of Applied AI Research at Meta, a position held since April 2024, where a team is being developed to integrate AI with AR technologies. Prior to this role, Yuning was the Head of Research and Director at Cruise from June 2021 to April 2024, successfully leading a new research organization that introduced advanced machine learning concepts and practices. Yuning also held the position of Head of Perception Research at Waymo, overseeing a team focused on self-driving car technologies from October 2018 to June 2021. Previous experience includes roles as a Research Scientist at Google, Engineering Internships at Google and Disney Research, and a research associate at K.U.Leuven. Educational achievements include a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Oxford and a Master's in Electrical Engineering from ETH Zurich.
