Yuning Mao

Yuning Mao is an AI Research Scientist with extensive experience in natural language processing and language model development. Currently serving as a core contributor at Meta from June 2022 to August 2025, Yuning Mao is noted for contributions to Llama 2 and Llama 3 post-training projects. Prior research experience includes a position as a Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from August 2017 to May 2022, focusing on topics such as text generation and summarization under the guidance of advisor Jiawei Han. Yuning Mao's internship experiences span across prominent organizations, including Facebook AI, Microsoft, and Amazon, where work involved parameter-efficient fine-tuning, open-domain question answering, and taxonomy construction.
